This print by feminist artist Nancy Spero is among the first lithographs she made while living in Chicago with her husband, the artist Leon Golub, after they both graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1949. The lithograph portrays three female forms overlaid with gestural marks and indicates Spero’s interest in the female body, as well as in the properties of lithography, which can combine chalk-like marks with washier passages.
