This print belongs to a series John Sloan began in 1905 describing life in New York. After moving to the city from Philadelphia in 1904, Sloan worked as an illustrator and depicted the gritty and quotidian aspects of his new environs in prints, paintings, and drawings. Here, a couple prepares for bed in an urban apartment—perhaps similar to where the artist himself lived.
