The Arabic inscription framing the octagons reads: "la muhkam [?] bi-amr[?] al-'aysh al-ayyam fa'itah wal-dahr munsarif wal-'aysh munqarad (There is nothing firm [?] with respect to [?] life: the days go by, time passes, and life is cut off."
