Description

Elhafen depicted mythological scenes in many small ivory reliefs intended for domestic decoration. As with any work in ivory, the size of the tusk dictated this relief’s scale.

inscribed in ink, almost certainly by a later hand, on back: Jupiter . . . a trompe ANTIOPE/SOUS la forme d'un Satyre/16 (?) 7 à Rome.
