Through his writing, lectures, and prolific artistic output, Winter championed enameling and increased public awareness of its creative potential. Given after-hours access to raw materials, industrial air compressors, and large kilns at the Ferro Enamel Corporation in Cleveland, he pioneered works of impressive design and scale. His Plaque: Mexico is a lyrical abstracted landscape populated by calla lilies and butterflies.
