Opulent gold thread forms heraldic shields of a Spanish king on a palmette ground. The shield bears the heraldic device of Castile and Leon, the castle and lion, which had decorated imperial Spanish garments for several centuries. The use of coats of arms was a European convention that was never adopted by the Muslims.
