One of the earliest artists to combine darkroom practice with digital manipulation, Johan uses Photoshop to meld hundreds of shots of animals, plants, and landscapes he has taken around the world into beautiful, compelling, yet eerie new ecologies. This image sets a tar pit in an Icelandic volcano and populates it with Peruvian yellow-headed blackbirds.
