Description
Hired as the set photographer for Jean Vigo’s celebrated film L’Atalante, Parry combined shots from two scenes to produce his own artwork addressing two of the movie’s themes: desire and regret. The heroine, a newlywed who through misunderstandings and misadventures has been separated from her husband, lies alone in her bed longing for him. Superimposed is her memory of an adventure they shared. This single image suggests dualities of past and present, reality and memory, union and loss.
