The artist signed his name in Bengali script in the lower right.
Inspired by the bold style of Kalighat paintings, Jamini Roy created paintings using indigenous materials, often with multiple versions of the same subject. Here the infant Krishna crawls with a butter ball in one hand. The cow, flowers, and leaves set the rural bucolic environment of his youth.
