Schwaberow spent a year in Japan studying the color woodcut technique in the workshop of Toshi Yoshida (also in this exhibition). Schwaberow works on a small scale because "it forces me to condense what I’m trying to say. If you only have a small space to work in, you have to choose carefully and everything matters. I think of my work as...intimate glimpses through small windows."
