Description

Douglas Lucak has lived and worked in his hometown of Cleveland for most of his life. Since the mid 1980s, these familiar surroundings have been his chosen subject matter. Sunday Blue is from his initial body of landscapes and cityscapes taken with a panoramic camera, printed in small scale, and hand-painted with oils. Here, Lucak recorded the swimming pool in Tremont's Lincoln Park using a straightforward, documentary approach, but his hand tinting and color choice personalized the bleak winter scene. By carefully positioning his camera, he read the decorative tile patterns in the empty pool as cross shapes, which relate to the churches in the distant background.
