Born and raised in Kyoto, Takiguchi Kazuo apprenticed under famous Kyoto potter Kiyomizu Rokubei IV (1901-1980). He graduated from Doshisha University (1974), Kyoto City University of Arts (1978), and the Royal College of Arts, UK (1992). Takiguchi mainly makes large stoneware vessels with a single aperture. He creates these works by draping extremely thin sheets of clay over molds that resemble the intended form and then finishes them with secondary techniques such as outside compression and cutting. Takiguchi is keenly aware of the relationship that works of art have with their environment and thus develops his forms based on the venue in which they will be exhibited.
