Zeke Berman initially studied sculpture at the Philadelphia College of Art. After graduating in 1972, he taught himself photography to record his process when creating sculptural work. Concerned with the pictorial aspect of sculpture, Berman challenges viewer perception with his still-life arrangements of everyday items. Untitled (Fruit Basket) plays between illusion and reality by creating discrepancies in what we discern as two- and three-dimensional objects. Lines made of string and glue, which form geometric patterns in the composition, reveal the fabricated nature of the scene.
