Description

Wood engraving, which had been used extensively during the 19th century for book and magazine illustration, was revived in the 1930s. Pinto was a master of the technique, creating a rich, luminous field of contrasting textures and rhythms. Mills conveys the artist's fascination with the interlocking patterns and tactile surfaces associated with the complex architectural structures of a growing industrialized society.
