Gift of Mrs. Elizabeth Morris in memory of her son, Frank S. Morris 1969.250
Sasajima was introduced to printmaking by Hiratsuka and studied with Munakata, both masters of the black-and-white woodcut (whose works are on view in this exhibition). Rather than trying to convey realistic perspective in his imagery, Sasajima experimented with the translation of the two-dimensional quality of calligraphy into woodcut.
