Robert Indiana was born Robert Clark in New Castle, Indiana.
American artist Robert Indiana is known for his assemblage art, hard-edge painting, and Pop art. Indiana, a self proclaimed “American painter of signs,” produced a body of work that explores language and abstraction, and quintessential facets of American identity. His highly recognizable work has inspired many contemporary artists who use the written word as a central element of their oeuvre.
