Sherri Schultz brings with her over ten years’ worth of catering, sales, and hospitality experience. Prior to joining the Cleveland Museum of Art as director of catering for Provenance, Schultz was the director of catering with AVI at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. She also gained invaluable experience during her time spent as director of sales and catering with Levy Restaurants at Cleveland Browns Stadium, where she was selected as a national corporate sales trainer to mentor new sales managers joining the Levy team, and traveled frequently to help execute their major events nationally. Schultz worked at the Ritz-Carlton Cleveland as a catering sales manager, where she believes she received the best-in-class training needed for a successful career in the hospitality industry.
Sherri believes there’s nothing more gratifying than helping people create memories. Contact Sherri at 216-707-6834 or events [at] clevelandart [dot] org to find out more about events at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Get to know more about Sherri and her passion for event planning below.
What makes the Cleveland Museum of Art the ideal place to hold social engagements?
The Cleveland Museum of Art is an ideal place to hold social engagements because it’s a “new” unique venue to Cleveland for hosting private events. The newly constructed atrium is so spectacular and unlike any other space in the city, and is perfect for weddings, galas, and social engagements. In addition to its variety of amazing spaces, the museum’s partnership with Chef Douglas Katz and Bon Appétit offers world-class dining options.
What is your favorite part about planning events?
What I love most about planning events are the memories I’ve created for my clients and the personal and professional relationships I have made over the years. It’s truly a rewarding experience for me to watch each event come to life after many months—sometimes years—of planning. I especially enjoy planning weddings because I really get to know the bride, groom, and their families on a personal level. It’s important to me to make sure that every detail is executed perfectly so they have a truly memorable and enjoyable experience.
Tell us a little more about all of the services and amenities offered at the museum for special events.
In addition to our fabulous new event spaces, we also can enhance events and guest experiences by adding museum tours with docents or curators in our new art galleries. In addition, Gallery One is a 14,000-square-foot space that will open in January 2013 and will provide visitors of all ages with new and different ways to look at works of art. The space offers an early learning zone; group-experience kiosks; a 40-foot, multi-touch power wall; and an alternative-reality iPad app to explore painting, sculpture, stylization, narrative storytelling, and the expression of a cultural era through art. It’s very exciting!
As director of catering, what are you looking forward to most this fall at the museum?
I’m looking forward to construction being completed so we can continue to enhance the guest experience with our new dining options at Provenance and Provenance Café. However, my obvious passion is planning events and I can’t wait until we can begin hosting events in our new event spaces, especially in the atrium. That space is so stunning and I love hearing the “oohs” and “aahs” from my clients when I show it to them for the first time. I think it’s the most magnificent venue in Cleveland and I’m so honored to be part of this project!
When you’re not busy working, what are your favorite things to do in Cleveland?
When I’m not working, I look forward to spending time with my husband, Steve, and our families and friends. We both love Cleveland’s lakefront, great local restaurants and shopping, professional sports teams (Go Browns!), outdoor concert venues, etc. My husband and I both work in the food service/catering industry and we devote a lot of time and energy to our careers; however, when we have time off together, we like to have fun and Cleveland offers a lot of options to keep us entertained.
