Frequently Asked Questions for Schools and Other Groups

I am a teacher and would like to lead my students through ARTLENS Gallery. How do I do that?

  • Groups smaller than 25 can use our online registration form to register for a self-guided visit of ARTLENS Gallery after 11 a.m. To ensure accessibility for all visitors, please navigate the space in small groups.
  • You may also be interested in a formal experience in ARTLENS Gallery. We offer Gallery Explorations for students in ARTLENS Gallery during the school day.

I am a college professor and would like to lead a class in ARTLENS Gallery.

  • Formal group lectures and presentations led by anyone other than CMA staff are not permitted.

I have a Camp, Youth Group, Girl Scout/ Boy Scout group. Can I schedule a class in ARTLENS Gallery? What badges do we earn?

  • We offer Gallery Explorations for students in ARTLENS Gallery during the school day. Requests outside of this time frame will be considered on a case by case basis. Please e-mail heppley [at] clevelandart.org with questions. Formal group presentations led by anyone other than CMA staff are not permitted.

  • These activities may earn scouts the following badges (GS Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, Ambassador: Legacy – Artist); BSA (Art 4).

I would like to bring multiple classes concurrently or a very large group for an ARTLENS Gallery experience.

  • To ensure accessibility for all visitors, ARTLENS Gallery can only accommodate two classes at any one time. We have numerous offerings for groups, such as tours of the permanent collection galleries and studio experiences.

I would like to schedule a class in ArtLens Studio. How do I do that?

  • ArtLens Studio is a space intended for family groups. We currently do not have the resources to accommodate groups. The museum does offer experiences for preschool and school classes in the museum’s galleries and in the studio classrooms.

Can I use the app to create a tour for my school group?

  •  ARTLENS Gallery resources were developed for a general audience, and thus there are no customizations specifically aimed at school groups. However, teachers can follow these instructions to create and share tours with students:
  • Choose artworks you would like on your tour using any of the following methods:

            1) Select the "heart" icon to favorite any artwork on the ArtLens app
            2) Connect your device to the ArtLens Wall and favorite artworks by selecting the "heart" icon
            3) Play an interactive in ArtLens Exhibition and artwork will be saved automatically

  • These works of art are saved directly to the “You” section of the app.
  • On the landing page that lists “Galleries, Tours, You and Museum,” select “Tours” and, at the top of the screen, scroll to “Create Your Own.”
  • Select the works of art you would like to include on the tour by clicking them and then press “Create a Tour” at the bottom of the screen.
  • Name your tour and add a description.

To share your tour, find it the “You” section and, from there, select the share button next to the "heart" icon to email the tour, copy the link, or save the link to Dropbox.Email artlens [at] clevelandart.org with any questions.
