Winged hare-like animals march around the top of the body, set off by foliate scrolls.
Sphinxes in interlacing bands on an arabesque ground connect inscriptions with human heads which only appear on metalwork. Known as animated script, it developed in northeast Iran during the 1100s and migrated westward.
